- BRACE YOURSELF FOR IMPACT -
I knew a man who was there
A silent witness, a presence on the air
In youth and innocence, completely unaware
Of the dire consequences
A Rainbow set alight
The Warrior defeated, rests beneath the tide
Replacements disembarked, but the silent protest
Fell on deaf ears…
Competing, aggressive, defensive policies
Escalates hair trigger mentality
Entire nations living in diaspora
“With great power, comes great responsibility”
Abberation
Abombination
Mutually assured destruction reigns over all
But has the world learnt from its past mistakes?
You must give us your land; for the good of mankind
Take this ink dipped quill and sign the dotted line
Come, take our hand, step away from your simple life
Never to return; no time to say goodbye
Split the atom, split the reef
Detonate this static heap
Close your eyes, prepare to leap and
Brace yourself for impact
Light the fire, turn the gauge
Release the dragon from its cage
Pinch its ass and let it rage and
Brace yourself for impact
Pull the trigger, pull the pin
Amplify your inner sin
Watch as the countdown begins then
Brace yourself for impact
Cut the wires black or green
The last thing you will ever see
You’ve booked a trip to smithereens so
Brace yourself for impact
When all is said and done
The mushroom cloud salutes the sun
Go find yourself another one and
Brace yourself for impact
Here and there and far afield
Are hidden ghosts you never feel
Still, every time a bigger yield
So brace yourself for impact
Unleash the demons hidden in the fabric of our matter
Then proclaim them as our saviour?
Better brace yourself for impact

Soul Paralytic

- SOUL PARALYTIC -
Once again I’ve fallen victim
To another wayward daydream
Once again I’ve let you in
I’ve opened the doors and embraced my sin
Inch by inch, limb by limb
Your poison’s spreading deep within
Who’s this John Doe - are you friend or foe?
You’ve all my senses overwhelmed
What do you know that I don’t?
You’ve turned my soul… paralytic
Once again I feel possessed by
A perpetual desire to know you
Once again I feel infected
Your potency is unexpected
Breath by breath, vein by vein
Gradually driven insane
Behind your screen you’re the first to judge
Summing up potential victims
Undressing your message to reveal
A beautiful wrath that you’ve concealed
Elusive John Doe, are you friend or foe?
You’ve all my senses overwhelmed
What do you know that I don’t?
You’ve turned my soul… paralytic

Becoming

- BECOMING -
Lying on my back
Losing track of celestial beings
Feeling the warmth of the earth
Resonating through me
Caught in a moving tide and getting swept away
Looking to the moon to find the answers everyday
Disparate visions get in the way
Last sliver of hope disappears again
White shapes in the sky evolve over time
No confines, just freedom
Atmospheric life, a waning outline
Drifts away silently
Caught in a moving tide and getting swept away
Looking to the moon to find the answers everyday
Disparate visions get in the way
Last sliver of hope disappears again
I saw you there behind the sheeted cloud
Caught in mid-air with no one around
You beckoned me to venture further forward
But as I approached, your expression changed
Undecided as to how to explain
And in the end, all you could say to me was
Be cool, be calm, because
I’m becoming

- MOUNT STREET CEMETERY -
High up in a tree I sit
Hidden from the day to day
The north wind blows upon my face
With the tree I sway
Strange circumstances have led me here
The paths I chose so unaware
And I feel cold, chilled down to the bone
Sensing a presence that’s not my own
You watch the world around you, little boy
Your fragile mind forsakes all
And while your youth escapes you, carry on
With the plagued desperation of your soul
There is a silence where hath been no sound
There is a cold no heat has ever known
Borne by mystery and fear
A beauty emerges unimpaired
And I feel cold, chilled down to the bone
Sensing a presence that’s not my own

Catching Leaves

- CATCHING LEAVES -
Just catching leaves on an afternoon
Hoping desperately for our luck to improve
She said “it’s not far away”
But on the ground, the leaves they lay
We’d spent a mourning, bowed our heads
Remembered those who’d left us, dead
And as the sun turned night to day
A single trumpet began to play
Floating, weightlessly free
Flashes of amber that light up the breeze
Nothing to fault us, do what we please
Just a pair in the wind trying to catch leaves
An empty house on a quiet street
Memories formed beneath our feet
Descending stairs into the gloom
Adolescent shadows cast onto the room
Floating, weightlessly free
Flashes of amber that light up the breeze
Nothing to fault us, do what we please
Just a pair in the wind, just trying to catch leaves
Leaning in to take better aim
The black falls; it’s the end of our game

At Last, Omniscience

- AT LAST, OMNISCIENCE -
i. Dawn Simulation
ii. Nostalgia Trip
Falling down through time and space
Back when I could win a race
Receding themes that make no sense
Suggesting that I just relent
What we hear now may evocate the past
Illuminating futures ahead of us
Unable to explain my ongoing absences
A different day, a different face
Spring soon forms from winter’s grace
The resurrection underway
A brand new dawn to simulate
From all we can tell and stories we impart
Our thoughts once confined may live on without us
I need to stop and get a grip, blatant nostalgia trip
iii. Marbled Disillusion
There is a time to say goodbye
And a time to say hello
There is a time to draw the curtain on this final show
When you’re eventually consumed
By your own marbled disillusion
How will I incite hope when you’re so inspired by despair?
There is a time to reflect
A time to anticipate
But when you return, you may arrive to find you’re too late
iv. Escape Velocity
You’ll soon come to realise, that every object of desire
Will one day rise up and reach its escape velocity
Perhaps a blessing? Perhaps a curse?
To know your own event horizon
I guess life will break us down
Until at last, omniscience lets our tired souls transcend
Both for here and now
And forever
